Her entrepreneurial journey began as a solopreneur, born out of sheer necessity. Juggling her responsibilities at home, where she cared for her children, while her husband pursued further education in the United Kingdom, left her with limited career options within the corporate rat race.
Upon her return to Malaysia, Rena astutely recognized a gap in her homeland’s market for organic skincare products. This realisation ignited her passion to establish Natugee. Despite her lack of formal business knowledge, Rena was determined to succeed and actively sought out a mentor. However, the mentors she encountered initially proved unsupportive of her decision to pursue a full e-commerce model, urging her instead to embrace the age-old “agent-system.” This discouragement led her into a disheartening spiral of setbacks, prompting her supportive husband to take action. He purchased tickets to a transformative seminar designed to unlock Rena’s untapped potential.
It was at this pivotal seminar that Rena found the mentor who would guide her towards creating a multi-million dollar e-commerce brand. This mentor became the compass guiding her through the intricacies of her entrepreneurial success.
Reflecting on her journey, Rena emphasises that business ventures often falter due to the multifaceted skill set required and the extensive knowledge needed to navigate the complex world of entrepreneurship. In response to these challenges, Rena founded Fem Power—an empowering community where women entrepreneurs support and uplift one another while collectively building their businesses.
